Brian Kay
CEO

He brings four decades of national and international experience in fraud investigation, with a reputation for identifying systemic weaknesses and delivering practical solutions. Recognised for troubleshooting complex financial and regulatory problems, his work has consistently bridged the gap between private and commercial spheres. Over the past decade, his focus has been on research, data harvesting, and the design of integrated intelligence frameworks that underpin Capture—Andromeda Investigates’ flagship platform for reconciling UK public datasets and closing the tax gap. His role is centred on building the strategic direction for Capture and ensuring the company’s expansion within the UK and internationally, securing Andromeda’s long-term position as a leader in investigative technology and financial governance.

Martin has over fifty years of experience in software engineering, beginning with Assembler on mini-computers in 1973 and extending across more than 25 programming languages. His career has spanned mainframes, mini-computers, desktops, web applications, and microcontrollers, with a particular focus on operating systems, real-time plant control, and large-scale data handling. Alongside his technical expertise, he taught Physics and Electronics in schools and at an Army College, where he also served as an Officer responsible for leadership training. A Chartered Physicist and Member of the Institute of Physics, Martin has applied his background in scientific rigour and systems design directly into Andromeda Investigates’ research and development. His work has been central to building the data architecture and intelligence frameworks that underpin Capture, ensuring its ability to reconcile fragmented public datasets and deliver the forensic insights needed to close the UK’s tax gap and support international adoption.

Dr Catherine Wells
Software Developer

Catherine has been a software developer since 2000, with expertise spanning both web and desktop applications. She has delivered complex software solutions tailored to client specifications across sectors including healthcare and engineering. Her particular strengths lie in database management, functionality design, and building systems that are both resilient and adaptable. A Chartered Physicist and Member of the Institute of Physics, Catherine brings strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in novel and complex scenarios. At Andromeda Investigates, she has been instrumental in shaping the architecture and functionality of Capture, ensuring the platform can integrate and reconcile fragmented datasets at scale. Her work has been central to building the usability and performance of Capture as a tool for financial investigation, fraud detection, and long-term public-sector reform in the UK and beyond.

Gareth joined Andromeda Investigates in 2009 to lead IT and central research, introducing new efficiency strategies and digital systems across the business. He has since become central to Andromeda’s digital investigations, with expertise in information gathering, data analysis, and research methods that ensure accuracy and speed. Gareth has worked closely with Brian Kay throughout the research and development programme, shaping the foundations of Capture and ensuring harvested data is structured for maximum utility. His role bridges investigative requirements with technical delivery, supporting the software engineers in transforming raw data into actionable intelligence. Gareth’s contribution has been critical to developing Capture into a scalable platform capable of closing systemic gaps in fraud detection and financial governance in the UK and internationally.

Our Mission

Andromeda Investigates was founded to solve one of the most persistent failures of modern governance: unreliable, fragmented, and misleading public data. For over a decade, we have been building Capture, our flagship platform, to bring clarity where there has been chaos.
We are experts in connecting unconnected data and transforming “dodgy data” into structured intelligence that supports clear decision-making.

Our Principles

  • The integrity of data is as important as life itself.

  • Provenance matters more than perception.

  • Find simple solutions to big problems.

  • Build software that delivers results so reliable they cannot be argued with.

  • Reduce wasted time and cost by automating tasks that humans currently perform inefficiently.

Our Technology

Capture combines advanced software engineering, new-thinking research, and the intelligent use of Artificial Intelligence.

  • AI, properly constrained by strict rules, can expose fraud, tax evasion, and financial crime.

  • AI can also be flawed or manipulated if not managed. Capture addresses this risk by grounding all analysis in provenance-based validation.

  • Digitalisation, if done badly, can drag society backwards. Done correctly, it delivers efficiency, reduces error, and saves cost.

Our Observations

  • Government systems remain plagued with shoddy data management.

  • Civil services often lack the skills, logic, and structures to use data effectively.

  • Decisions made on perceptions rather than evidence create long-term harm.

  • Weaponising bad data or stupidity risks destabilising society.

Our Impact

At Andromeda Investigates, we provide the corrective. Capture delivers order from chaos, reduces fraud and tax evasion, and creates a sustainable framework for financial governance. Our goal is simple: to ensure that critical decisions—whether by governments, regulators, or private organisations—are based on facts that are accurate, connected, and proven.
